The growing season is over.

I've been blogging for a number of months about planting, growing and harvesting vegetables here in Newfoundland  and now the season has ended. There'll be no more plants going in the ground here until June (depending on the weather) 2013. Right now that is a long way off. I may be posting from time to time about gardening related topics. Thanks for the page views and comments.

The garden after our first real snow fall last night. There'll be lots of the white stuff to come as we have 5 months of winter ahead

Big turnips for winter

We are quite pleased with our turnip this year. They all grew to a nice size and the ones we've eaten were very tasty....

The carrots are finally out of the ground.

Well we finally harvested our carrots today..they were a little hard to get up because the ground is starting to freeze.....

These are real nice size...for show

Unusual looking carrots...planted too close together actually....

This is how I store the carrots for winter.....Here I'm using a plastic fish box. I put in a layer of soil and a layer of carrots until the box is full...Did this last winter and it worked out good....

Here I'm starting the second layer......

This is how I got them ready for the cellar.

These are nice and clean..ready to have their picture taken

I used these seeds to grow my parsnips.

The end of the season Is near.

Not much in the mini cellar now but that'll change when I get the remainder of my vegetables out of the ground. The temp.is 0 C now and dropping, time to get the season finished up.

Where I have parsnips covered with soil, carrots and my last cabbage which as been enjoyed in several "cooked" dinners.

Last Tomatoes Of The Season

These are the last of my tomatoes ,they'll be taken inside to ripen.

They did ripen inside, some were left on the vine and some were put in brown paper bags.Problem is we have most of them eaten before I thought to a snap. We're always eating stuff around here!

The "Plants" Have Eyes

"Digging in the rain"

You could say I'm sick of this rain ,dizzle and fog we've had for about 3 weeks .I took up the remainder of this bed of mixed carrots today,it was a bit dirty digging in the rain.
