How to save cantaloupe seeds

Here's how I get my own cheap seed from cantaloupe we buy at the grocery store.Seeing I can't do any outdoor gardening I decided to do some experimenting with these seeds I saved. This is part one of three..will post the second and third part (germinating and planting) shortly

This is the piece of cantaloupe I'm taking the seeds from
Here I have the seeds and some pieces of fruit..next step they must be cleaned
The seeds have been cleaned through a strainer
Here I'm testing them to see which ones will sink and which ones will float
I skimmed off the ones that floated
Here are my finished seeds..I'll let them dry before storing

Saving seed in Newfoundland

http://www.thetelegram.com/Living/2011-10-19/article-2780831/Saving-seed/1

A generation or two ago in Newfoundland, saving seeds from vegetables was pretty run-of-the-mill. Back then, saving seed was about saving money, and about saving time, because you couldn’t always pop down to the nearest store to get some.

I grew these parsnip seeds a few years ago

Seed Saver

I'm a seed saver.  I've saved lots of flower seeds before but this is my first attempt at veggie seeds.

Below, the seeds look ready to fall off, so I decided to cut some bunches off before they fell to the ground.

Parsnip seeds on a paper towel

I'm testing the viability of these seeds in a damp paper towel in a plastic bag.

This is my drying setup. I'm excited to see how it turns out. I hope to have plenty of parsnip seeds for next year.
